Carol Explains
Biosomatcs, Movement Education, and Your Well-being
“This is an autonomous learning process, not one of imitation, performing,
pushing yourself or being mechanical. What we are doing is learning, learning
about our indivdual way of using ourselves and that knowledge becomes our power
in refining how we move, discovering what will work best and reacquainting us
with an inherent agility.”
“Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person's physical, emotional and mental states.“
“I have had a long standing curiosity about movement as a medicine.
I call us autonomous human beings to emphasize that we are self-correcting, self-regulating human beings. Movement is one way to activate this ability to self-corrrect.
Our loss of awareness and our alienation from our bodies is so extreme that we
continually injure ourselves without sensing how we are doing it to ourselves.
For example, we habitually hold ourselves in certain ways, such as locking our
knees. The strain is there and is taking it's toll, yet our ability to perceive
and feel is numb and the strain is not being registered.”
“Movement education is a pathway to regain conscious cortical control of our patterns of movement.
This involves an internal process whereby new sensory information is introduced into the
sensory-motor feedback loop, allowing the motor-neurons of the voluntary cortex once again
to fully control the musculature. What brings about healing is that learning.”
“Biosomatics reconnects us to the body's innate intelligence and reawakens our awareness of our incredible potential as conscious human beings. Our individual style of movement reveals how we mentally process and interact with our world.
How we move reveals what we are like.”
